So this is the first story in a series of short stories. It's still a work in progress and I'm planning at least two more stories, one about France and a revisit of my Hanoi days. I really love mixing the papercutting and the pen work. More posts to follow. Enjoy!

Lost in the Sun
My friends Kelly and Kevin have a great band in Phoenix called Lost in the Sun that I'm doing a promotional poster for. Kelly wanted something with trains and here's the design I came up with. I'm going to do a two-color screen print as soon as I find some good paint. I want to do something with desert colors since, y'know, they're in the desert.
In other news, it's springtime in Vermont and it's snowing. A blizzard! At least the Christmas tree that's been sitting outside my front door for months is hidden under some snow again. I really should do something about that soon.

Lies! It's all lies!
Some excellent friends of mine are putting together an anthology called Lies Grownups Told Me. It's going to be a collection of comics about all those things you believed when you were little. Here's one idea I came up with that's more existential. Click for better reading.
Yup, I was pretty gullible. I was one of those kids who believed in Santa Claus for a lot longer than I should have. I was one of the last die hards in third grade when everyone else had already figured it out. I think that was a hint at my future inability to predict book and movie plots. Santa is real! And I had no idea Shutter Island was all in his mind!

Beans
Jen sent this photo to me. That's my "I'm about to serve you decaf" look.
I'm working on a big final project. It's going to be a series of travel vignettes in the vein of my Hanoi comic. I'm hoping to use some paper cutout elements too so it's gonna be the best of the best!
And in all of my free time I'm reading Uglies by Scott Westerfeld for our first book club meeting. It's so great! It's about a future society where everyone is beautiful. Boy I love me some teen lit.

I heart Tom Gammill
Tom Gammill is a cartoonist and comedy writer for The Simpsons. He came to speak at our school a couple weeks ago and it was a laugh riot. He posted a video he made while visiting the Center for Cartoon Studies. His other videos are great too. Tom Gammill. Funny guy. (p.s. Don't look for my shiny face, I had to work when he made this. But lots of friendies are featured!)
On Youtube, this video is tagged under Charlie Sheen. What does that mean??

Letterpress!
Dartmouth College has a letterpress studio. I went there last night for the first time and it was great! There were so many little letters made out of lead and old-fashioned printing presses. I was like a kid in a candy store. Except I didn't eat the lead.
This is an example of the high class letterpressing you can expect from me in the future.
